The earliest dials are known as “OCC” bearing the text “Officially Certified Chronometer” which can be seen in pre 505,XXX serials.The original "OCC" dial predates the more commonly seen "SCOC" dials of the 1960s and is in impressively well-preserved condition for its age. The silver dial features concentric brushing which is only characteristic of 1950s dials and offers a unique of-the-era aesthetic that is downright beautiful.At the time Rolex started producing Small Crown Submariners and other Sport Models circa 1953, Radium was used for the luminous material on the dial and hands. The material has a distinct orange ochre color and the shape of the markers has a three dimensional appearance.
The reference 6150 is similar to the 6098 and 6298. While it features the 3-6-9 layout that would go on to be called the Explorer dial, only some feature a line of text above six o'clock reading "Explorer." The rest, and indeed the majority, say "Precision."
